Week 3: Full Week on the Floor

This was a very hectic, stressful week — I was on the floor all week and had testing again on Friday. It was fun, but I am very tired at the end of the day. Most of my appointments this week were pedicures so I am becoming more comfortable with them. I had a few manicures and one of those was a hot oil mani. I had one Therabath pedicure on a diabetic client and I spent a lot of time and care on her as I didn’t want to hurt her in any way. It was a learning experience doing a pedi for someone who is diabetic. I learned what I can and can’t do regarding massaging the feet and legs.
I have yet to do a full set or tips but I’m sure that time is coming. We had a couple of slow days where I was able to practice gluing tips and doing acrylics. I am learning how to use an e-file too, and I’m enjoying that very much. Hand filing is so time-consuming that when I get out in the real world I am getting my own e-file. We have the option of using it on clients but I’ll practice a little more and maybe use one of the cosmo students to practice on before I feel comfortable enough to use the e-file on a client.
Yesterday I had a very interesting client, I did a mani/pedi on her and she wanted nail art. She brought all of her polish and decals. She very patiently showed me how to do the art and apply the decal. I think doing decals and jewels will be fun so I definitely need to practice that. So far, I am doing well on all the tests and am starting to enjoy being on the floor. These weeks are going by quickly and I have my eye on June 30th — graduation day!

Oy, I think I remember this client. Does she wear braces? If it is the one that I am thinking of, you are very diplomatic in describing her as interesting. But she did do a lot to prepare me for my time in a real salon, so for that, I am grateful.

I to, was totally sold on using an efile and it is one of the first things I purchased once I got into the salon. I find when I learned to sculpt with my brush, I dont need to use it nearly as much though...Just for rebalances and taking bulk down from gels.

Im glad you are enjoying your journey thus far..
