Nails to Sing About: Nail Art From the Grammys

Last night’s Grammy Awards brought out the best in celebrity nails. Nail art played a huge part in the event with the return of E!’s Mani Cam allowing the focus to be on nails and nail art. While celebrities walked the red carpet, they could also strut their fingers down the Mani Cam’s red carpet so we at home could get a full glimpse of what was on their nails. Social media also helped us get an inside glimpse of Grammy-ready nails.

Tracey Sutter used COVERGIRL’s Outlast Nail Gloss in Forever Festive, with a layer of Nail Gloss in Clear on Janelle Monae’s nails. The accent nail was created with Outlast Nail Gloss in Black Diamond with gold metals on top, and Snow Storm to create the circles.

Carly Rae Jepson wore Red Carpet Manicure Set in Stone applied by Emi Kudo.

Christina Aviles treated Alabama Shakes' Brittany Howard to her first gel manicure with Red Carpet Manicure's VIP Access on all fingers, Perfect High Heels on her ring fingers and thumbs, and Shazaam with gold chunky glitter on her pinky fingers.

We were also excited to see nail art commercials in prime time. This one from COVERGIRL ran during the Grammys, celebrating nail art in all its glory.

Why oh why do licensed Nail techs use over-the-counter nail polish? I am so glad to see nails step into the limelight! Mani Cam, Awesome...

The Mani Cam is so cool!!! I LOVE to see what the celebrities are wearing on their nails! A lot of times the "over-the-counter" companies sponsor these shows, hence why their polishes are used. Also, these are the polishes that are easily accessible to every woman. So Jane Doe can go to Walgreens, Rite-Aid, etc and do the same look that she saw on her favorite celebrity. I am a licensed nail tech myself, and I use whatever polish my clients like. At the end of the day, it's about the base and top coats, and the application that really matters...not necessarily the polish. A lot of the drugstore brands have really stepped their game up over the last couple of years, and are just as good, if not better than some of the high end polishes in my opinion.
