What’s in a Name?

I consider myself a pretty “pun”ny person. Consider some of my recent headlines: “17 Ways to Knock the Socks Off Your Winter Pedicure Clients [Literally]” and “A Breath of Fresh Air” (a story in about ventilation systems, Sept. 07); yes, I have a silly sense of wordsmith humor. So as I was reading a New York Times profile about Essie Weingarten, founder of Essie Cosmetics, I couldn’t help but relate as it talked about the cleverness (and some minor controversy) of Essie polish names, like Café Forgot, which is apparently named after a Parisian café where Essie herself took a spill. (I was also glad to read that even famous people can sometimes be as klutzy as I am.)

I’m currently collecting fall polish collections for NAILS Fall Polish Preview (look for it in our upcoming September issue) and I was yet again blown away by the cleverness of the names. “Eiffel For This Color” from OPI’s La Collection de France and Finger Paints “Bada Bing, Bada Blue” in particular brought a smile to my face.

What is your personal all-time favorite nail polish name? Leave me a comment in Feedback.

Hi Sree!

The names I get the most reactions from are:

OPI - "Who comes up with these names?" because they always want to know!

"You're such a Kubuki Queen"

"No Autographs, Please"

"Who Are You Wearing?"

"My Chihuahua Bites" (Clients that know I have 2 Chihuahuas myself, so I add "but mine don't bite!!)

"I'm India Mood for Love"

CND: Jiggy

Hope that helps!!

Julie
