Finding Employees and Finishing School

I’m pretty sure that running a nail salon without nail techs might pose a bit of a problem. I’m even more certain that my previous sentence could easily win an award for Understatement of the Year. It’s a really good thing that I can laugh at myself or else I would be pulling out my hair.

The task at hand is to Find Licensed Nail Technicians! Who would have guessed this would be so challenging? I thought this might be an issue since I had a hard time finding a beauty school in Chicago that offered a nails-only program, except I did most of my searching online and could have easily missed one or two. But I never guessed that the resumes would trickle in so slowly.

The good thing is I’ve found a couple people that I think would be a good fit. Now, I just need about two or three more licensed nail techs and maybe a couple freelancers and we should be all set. Although I am finding this is much easier said than done.

Any ideas on how I can find the right candidates? I’ve contacted a couple schools outside of the city and posted the position on Simply Hired and Indeed, but I’m wondering if I should also post an ad in the Reader… hmmm.

I’ve also been slacking off on my own studies...I know, I know...but there’s just so much to do! The last thing on my to-do list has been finishing my education in nail technology. But no worries, I am now determined to finish my own nail studies. I’m so close. I just have got to get it done, and now that I’ve blasted it all over Blueprint (ha ha), I guess I better get my butt in gear.

Next on the agenda: Find Licensed Nail Techs! Oh, and Finish School!

Have you tried advertising on Craigslist? That's a popular one also. Good luck!

Make sure you do a working interview have them do a full set, manicure, and pedicure so you can see them in action and see how good their work is.

Actually, I haven't tried Craigslist, Denaya. You're the second person to suggest Craigslist. So, I will definately look into it... thanks!

@ Telia: Being able to see the work before hand is quite an eye opener. I interviewed a person that I really liked. Ambitious, amicable and all that jazz. Then I asked her to give me a mani ( in a dark color). It didn't turn out too great. SO, I gave her a book called "Rescue Your Nails" by Ji Baek and scheduled her for a second interview two weeks later. I am hoping that she comes back and performs a killer mani... fingers crossed. If she's coachable, she is certainly a keeper :o)

Hi Makeda ,you may try linkedin.com groups,be around some groups over there, interact with people and set up google search notification including the terms you have to look for, this is my preferred way to get such info...Good luck.
