Q & A: Nail Salon - Laundromat Combo

We just opened up a brand new state-of-the-art laundromat. We have some space right in the front, where we are adding a small nail salon and may be a tanning booth to attract more customers for multibusiness under one roof.  Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mano

Hi Mano,
I remember trudging to the laundromat with loads of laundry (and a baby). I was fixated on making sure I got to the
dryers before anyone else and would feel like I won big if I was able to get my own section of three to four dryers immediately after pulling my clothes out of the washer. I think a no-chip mani would be the best offering if there is an interest in attracting laundromat customers. Since the no-chip mani offers zero dry time with no smudging, customers wouldn't have to worry about ruining their nails when they return to the laundry.

Hi Mano,
Laundromat and nail salon...an unusual combination but if your area is in need and has a demand for both
business, then why not? You should be the one to provide the people with what they need. Sometimes as entrepreneurs we are so caught up on fulfilling our dreams of becoming business owners that the basic principles of business like supply and demand are forgotten.  Go get 'em!

Editors' Note: Mano, when you successful open up that nail salon in the laundromat, please e-mail over a photo to NAILS Magazine's sree.roy@bobit.com. That sounds like a unique concept that we might be interested in covering in the magazine!

great idea... definitely go for a nail tech with experience doing nails that will be dry when ready to go. Acrylic nails with gel top coat, gel nails & light cured manicures. :) You can kill 2 birds with one stone if you train the nail tech to be able to handle issues in the laundromat as well, so as not to be over staffed :)
I would give a small discount to people who use both services at the same time. Be sure you have a large machine for washing king sized quilts etc. as this is a lot of peoples only reason for going to a laundromat these days. :) If you have clients booking for nails you may want to ask them at the time of booking if they will be using the laundromat & if so, I would use "reserved" signs on the machines so your booked clients can be sure to get machines while they are there.
