I’m happy to say the building looks amazing — the scaffolding is off, the stucco is going on, and the second floor is almost finished — but unfortunately we’re still hitting some small hiccups, even this late in the game. It turns out the measurements that were taken for the sign out front were incorrect. The original measurements had the glass etching at 10 feet, but it turns out that the space is actually six and a half feet. Luckily, this doesn’t affect the size of the etched polish bottle in the sign, but it does affect the glass around the bottle. Also, our salon equipment supplier John Pohlen realized that some of the plumbing was in the wrong spot, so now we have to move it around.
It’s funny because the other day I walked into the salon and thought, “Didn’t we have a bigger space?” I’ve been used to looking at a wide open space, so now that the walls are up and things are fitting into place, it looks much smaller to me. And it’ll “shrink” even more as the furniture goes in. I’m a little bit worried that the space around each pedicure throne will be a little tight, but we’ll make it work.
I have a definite deadline for the salon to open — July 15. That’s the date of OPI’s annual symposium, and part of the agenda includes a tour of the salon. I’m crossing my fingers that we’ll actually open by June 1.
