Happy Turkey Day Healthy Tech Talkers!
Tomorrow is the big day, and I’m sure as much as we’re thankful for family and friends and the time we get to spend together, there is also a layer of apprehension about the tasty meal that you’ll inevitably encounter. So how are you going to deal with it?
Let me offer up a few suggestions.
1. Get some exercise in the morning. A lot of towns have annual Turkey Trot 5K race/walks. If yours doesn’t, try to get some sort of exercise in before your feast begins. This way, you can have a little extra stuffing and not feel guilty. We usually take a long bike ride between supper and dessert.
2. Don’t sit down to the table hungry. Try not to snack and nibble all day long while you’re waiting for the big meal. But do have something healthy to eat. You don’t want to sit down to the dinner table on an empty stomach or else you might take down the whole buffet. Eat a healthy breakfast and a light lunch if you’re eating dinner later in the day. But stay away from the cheese plates and the fatty dips while you’re waiting.
3. Drink plenty of water, especially right before you sit down to eat. Water really does help curb hunger.
4. Fill the majority of your plate with white meat and steamed or fresh veggies. You don’t have to skip the yummy stuffing and potatoes with gravy, but try to keep the portions small — sometimes just a taste will do.
5. Splurge on your favorite and skip the other “bad-for-you” items. Do you love stuffing, but aren’t a huge fan of pumpkin pie? Well, skip the pie and have a little extra stuffing. Or if you’re a die-hard dessert person, maybe you won’t take the potatoes and gravy so you can splurge on the pie.
6. And I think this is the most important point I’m going to make…don’t beat yourself up if you choose to indulge. It’s only one day and you can get right back on track on Friday. (Try to keep it to one day though; send guests home with leftovers so you won’t be compelled to eat them all yourself.)
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’m thankful for so many things; my family, my friends, my health, my job, and this group of dedicated, successful bloggers!
Below are a few links to help you make it through the big day. How are you planning on dealing with Thanksgiving? I, for one, plan on indulging in all the tasty delights of the holiday. It’s my favorite day of the year and I enjoy the food, guilt-free. Then I’ll go to yoga and run this weekend!

(As you can see from the pictures above, taken a few years ago when I spent Thanksgiving in Hawaii with friends, I have no problem loading up my plate! And yes, I did cook the turkey in a bikini...that was a great holiday!)
