Are You a Skinny B****?

Has anyone read the book “Skinny Bitchby Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin? I bought the book on Thursday and have read eight chapters so far. Wow. Makes you think about things. The book is not for someone with a queasy stomach. There are references to back up the statements of terrible conditions on farms. They write about the treatment of animals and the chemicals used to keep them “healthy.” I hope that there is some exaggeration.

Of course the authors are vegetarians now and after reading the first eight chapters, I have asked myself if I could really give up beef. I have the taste buds of a 12-year-old. I hate that I am such a picky eater. The book talks about how humans process food and how the human body is a great self-healing machine and how we do not need most of the things we put in our mouths. Like I said, it really makes you think. If you could get through the chapters with the graphic details, it is not a very long book to read. I can’t wait to finish the book.

And on another note, I wanted to share some helpful words from my past Weight Watchers leader. (I am still on her e-mail list.)

Food can fill our stomachs.

It cannot fill our souls.

Food can nourish our bodies.

It cannot nourish our hearts and minds.

Food can make our taste buds happy.

It cannot make us happy.

Food can give momentary pleasure.

It cannot give lasting pleasure.

Food can distract us from our pain.

It cannot take away our pain.

Food can be controlled.

It does not control us.

Food serves a purpose.

It does not give us purpose.

Habit Change of the Week: Imagine if this were a habit — every time you walk into the kitchen (or near a vending machine, or into the cafeteria or break room) you ask yourself, “Am I hungry?” Then make the decision from that standpoint. Even if the answer is no and you go for the food anyway, at least you’ve given yourself the information instead of mindlessly eating. It’s baby steps, people! Try it this week (maybe post the question in your kitchen!) and see what happens!

And then also remember..... “If HUNGER isn’t the PROBLEM, FOOD isn’t the ANSWER.”

Connie, choosing not to eat meat is a very personal choice and I would never weigh in on that for anyone. I do however want to enlighten you on the farm thing ;o)

When you or the book you read make a statement like that about farms it would be the same as someone assuming all salons are like a non-standard salon, follow me? My husband farms as his lifestyle (it is much more than a job) and the farm has been in his family for over 100 years. The cattle we own take presidence over everything. I have held a calf in my arms, singing to it while stroking its fur as if it were my child, in a feild trying to coax it into living when something has gone wrong, he and his brother have dug graves for a favorite cow when she passes away due to old age. We make scarifices in our lives to accomadate their birthing schedule and if they choose to knock down a fence and get out of a pasture we have given up plans and outings to fix fence and make sure none of them hurt themself. My husband works a day job and has worked 12 hour days to come home and check the cows every hour until he goes back to work when they are calving to be sure they are doing ok and don't have complications. The cows on our farm are treated more like some people treat their cats and dogs we just don't have them in the house!! Sorry if this was too much information, just wanted you to know there are good farms out there and farm animals that have been loved from birth :o)

The poem, habit change, and quote are awesome. Thanks for sharing, keep up the good work!
