Hi! I’m Gina and I work for CND as an Education Ambassador. I decided to join the Healthy Tech Talk blog because, like almost everyone else on this blog, I have some weight to lose. So I thought this would be a good way to get some support. When Jan Arnold challenged us to join, she asked to give our reasons for doing so. I stood in front of everybody and told them my name and that I was a sugar addict. Needless to say, this got a few laughs from the room. But as funny as it may seem, it sadly is true. I am addicted to sugar just as someone can be addicted to alcohol or drugs.
I’ve always known that sugar and I have had a special bond, but there were a few incidents last summer that got me thinking. I had what could simply be described as being sugar drunk or having a sugar hangover. I had some of the symptoms of being drunk (dizziness, poor judgement, etc.) and then the next day, I couldn’t get off the couch because of the blinding headache. All of this from just consuming an extreme amount of sugar.
So I got online and started doing some research and came across Kathleen DesMaisons website. This woman is a miracle worker and the first person to ever get a Ph.D. in Recovery Nutrition. Ironically I had Kathleen’s first book Potatoes Not Prozac (think I got it from a book club) so I dug it out and started reading it. This book and Kathleen’s program have saved my life. If you think you may be addicted to sugar, go to the website. You will never meet a more supportive group of people, a group of people who have been where you are and have come through it. If you are not sure if you are addicted to sugar, go to the website. There is a questionnaire you can take to find out if you are sugar sensitive.
So that’s why I’m here, to lose weight but to do so sensibly, to get my brain chemistry under control so sugar isn’t a problem anymore, oh, and to look really HOT in skinny clothes. (C’mon secretly that’s what everyone wants, I’m just saying it out loud for everyone.)
