Meet Jennifer

My name is Jennifer Harrison and I have been a nail professional for 14 years. I have been an Education Ambassador for CND for the last four years. I married my high school sweetheart, Calvin, and we have a 6-year-old son, Colton. We have always lived outside of Nashville, Tenn. And that means we have always eaten fried food and lots of sweet tea!

I have always been athletic and blessed with God-given high metabolism so I’ve been able to maintain a pretty average weight. But I have horrible eating habits. Being healthy to me is not about what size you are but how you feel.

At the training for CND in California a few weeks ago, I was amazed at how different I felt just by changing my eating habits. I wasn’t hungry and I didn’t feel like I had to take a nap at 3 p.m. I also lost 4 lbs in 5 days just by eliminating sugars and carbs (the bad carbs that is).

I feel that your body is an amazing piece of work and I have been astonished to see the things people can accomplish when they set their minds to something. I wanted to grow this year in a lot of ways and the only way I know to do that is to step outside the box...do something bigger then I feel comfortable doing. I have several goals that I want to accomplish and I think it will be a little easier with the support of my friends here at healthy talk.

1. I want to change my eating habits. (I just finished eating two pieces of fudge pie, by the way.) I just want to eat balanced healthy meals — three meals a day and healthy snacks in between. I will start a journal to keep me honest and share it along this journey. I have been saying that I am going to start this tomorrow and tomorrow never comes. I wasn’t raised on healthy food so this is not easy. I don’t know how to do it...ahhhhh! So this week I am freaking doing it!

2. I want to complete a triathlon by next spring. It’s just something on my “bucket list.” It’s hard for me to stay focused so I will need your encouragement!

3. I started ballroom dancing about a year ago and it has been the best form of exercise that I have ever done. It has helped with my posture, my core and balance. As a nail professional I slump over my desk and this has helped my posture more then I ever thought possible. I want to start working on my first routine by this winter. I will send in pictures so you can see how it’s going.

So in short I’m looking for change and growth! It has to start somewhere. We all leave behind a legacy of sorts when we are gone. I want my son to enjoy exercise, know how to eat healthy, and never settle for the ordinary. I hear people say “One day I will do this or that.” I want to do it today. So here we go. 2009 watch the heck out!

Good luck Jennifer; I know you can reach your goal with your determination. There will be days you just want to "throw in the towel", but don't -- always remember there will be ups and downs. But for any lofty goal I have reached in the past, I looked back after completion and said to myself that it seemed so difficult at the time, but boy was it worth it in the end. I look forward to reading about you completing the triathlon.

That's my girl. She can do anything that she sets her mind to do.

WOW.. I was so happy to see your comments..thanks. Mom you have always been my biggest fan and my determination comes from you.
Uncle Steve...thanks. Please cont.to send your support because it makes me want to do it even more. The marathon was the hardest thing I have ever done. I can not imagine this being harder..we shall see. I have to get a bike and find someone to teach me how to train for the swimming portion.I am working on that. Hope you are well.

I love almost any kind of sport and I welcome challenges. But, it takes a lot of dedication and endurance to compete in a triathlon. When I was younger, I had the endurance. But, I could not dedicate the hours of training that it takes to master 3 entirely different sports: swimming, bicycling, and running. Now that I have the time, I no longer have the endurance at age 52. So, it is by osmosis that l am living one of my dreams through my daughter, Jennifer. What parent would not be proud?

Mom,

I know you may never look back at this portion of the blog since it was so many months ago when you sent this entry but I want you to know this: It is Dec 6 and reading that it was once a goal of yours has motivated me to continue doing this. I have gotten tired..mentally and physically but in the morning my run will be for you. I love you and thank you for all the things you do..even when you don't mean to be a possitve force in my life it seems you just are.
