Hi my name is Debra J. Brundage. I guess I’ll start by saying WOW, what a training we had! CND has outdone itself; the training was awesome, the trainers were great, and as always Jan was such an inspiration to us all.
Training has always sent me home with a lot to think about and I’m usually very excited and motivated to share what I learned. Since our training had so much focus on health and wellness, I came home with a lot to think about and a lot to share. The challenge and commitment to Healthy Tech Talk really helped me to step up and finally do something about what I struggle with every day. If you have a busy schedule (as most of us in this business do) you know the routine on how we eat. I have been doing it forever — from when I was in the salon and now in the school. Working until 9 p.m. really takes a toll on the schedule of eating, and than balancing that with home life, it makes sense to just grab or make whatever is easy. Have you noticed that it’s expensive to eat healthy? It takes planning to always be prepared with something to eat when it’s time. There is no miracle and it is a proven fact that you need to eat to lose weight. Go figure.
I’m really not sure what triggered me to step up and take the challenge but I am 54 years old and have a beautiful husband and family that I want to spend a lot more time with. I want to enjoy my healthy life with them. How often do you look at the obituaries and see people 45, 50, 60, 65, gone? Life has had many speed bumps and detours along the way but I have always been a survivor.
When I became an ambassador with CND my goal was to help nail techs be the best that they could be, that in turn inspired me to become an instructor where I could nurture them from the very beginning. Just like a parent it is important to lead by example. At a past training Jim Yates said, if you keep doing what you are doing, you’ll get what you got! He inspired me to change a few things. This time Madeleine Marentette from Grail Springs is inspiring me to really look at my body, mind and spirit. I’m not quite ready for the detox but her book has a lot to offer. It is keeping me focused on what I need to do for myself, as well as for my family and my students. At our Thursday morning meeting we did the Grail Morning Mantra that I have done every morning since I have returned from training. I do believe it is helping me and it even seemed to awaken some of the senses of my students. I am very realistic about my weight, and 50 lbs sounds like a lot, but I can afford to dump that much. My arthritic knees will love me for it and so will my heart. I am ready and having you all close with me will definitely make the journey a whole lot easier. Knowing I have you all to help me along the way, and for us to share with each other new ideas, exercise tips, and menus makes chances pretty good for all of us!
Read Grail Springs even if you never plan on doing a detox. It will leave you thinking and possibly help you along the way on our journey together .
