Hi, my name is Barbara Fogleman and I began my career with CND as an Education Ambassador 10 years ago, and have been in my current position as a Regional Sales Manager since last January. My career with CND has afforded me some pretty amazing opportunities, experiences, and travels around the world. Unfortunately, along the way I developed some not-so-healthy living habits.
To me, healthy living is about making choices that make me feel strong, both physically and mentally. I want to be healthy. I want to eat healthy foods. I want to be physically active. I would like to quit my terrible habit of smoking. I would like to not feel like my muscles and joints have atrophied when I have been sitting for any length of time. I know what it takes to be a healthy person but my biggest struggle is keeping promises to myself to be healthier.
I have the best of intentions when I start a new program, diets, etc. Eventually, I fall off the proverbial “I’m going to be healthy” wagon right into a vat of cheeseburgers or some other food I can’t resist. It might have been a long day of traveling, and I just don’t have the desire/energy to put on my work-out clothes and get moving so I tell myself “just start over tomorrow.” Unfortunately, this consistent “I’m going to start over tomorrow” has resulted in an additional 50 lbs. in the last 15 years I have been in this industry!
Since I do not make it a habit of making promises to others that I can’t keep, I am not going to make a promise. But I am going to make a commitment to make choices that get me to the goals I have set for myself. One year from now as I get close to celebrating my 40th birthday, I would like to be at least 30 lbs. lighter, exercising at least three times a week, not wearing empire-style shirts or dresses to hide my “food baby” and maybe sporting a conservative-yet-stylish bikini — something I haven’t done since my honeymoon in 1993.
So, my first commitment to myself is going to be actually using the jump rope that I carry in the front pocket of my suitcase. It just so happens that I am on a trip and in my hotel room as I am writing this…no better time than the present!
My second commitment is to give up my Grande White Chocolate Mocha made with soy. I have had a love affair with this drink for at least a year and it has not served me well. I tell myself this every time I drink one, most recently this morning before I started this blog. So today was my last one. I will miss you Grande White Chocolate Mocha made with soy!
My third commitment is to eat a healthy, low-fat salad once a day. Fortunately for me, I am not big on creamy, fattening dressings and I like most veggies so this should be an easy one!
My fourth commitment is to participate in Healthy Tech Talk and share my journey along the way.
Until next time!
