Meet Valerie

I have been a cosmetologist for 15 years (12 and counting at Images Salon in Boise City, OK). I am a stylist and nail professional, as well as a Education Ambassador (EA) for CND for the last eight years.

Growing up in a small town (less than 2,000 people) then going off to school and coming back here to work has been great. I have had to practice on many friends and family, bless their hearts! It’s been great in some situations and not so good in others. BUT above all I feel like Boise City always supports this “small town girl.”

I want to be healthy for me, as well as my family. I have learned that it really is up to me to motivate myself to START! Ten years ago I had a life-changing tragedy. My twin sister had a massive heart attack; we were only 24-years-old. Losing her was my greatest fear, but despite that, I have not made the change to be healthy. Now being a mom of two kids under the age of 7, I want to be the example they need to stay healthy for life. High blood pressure and diabetes is in our family history. But healthy living is in our future!

My goal is to lose 30 pounds. I want to look and feel good. I have started riding my bike more and drinking water instead of so much pop. That should get me started. Wish me luck and join me in the journey!

Val - here is the first of many steps toward being that healthy person you want to be I have no doubt your sister is so proud!! Cutting back on pop is a great start, I have finally given it up with the rare exception and I sure miss it!! Great job starting to exercise, keep it up and keep us in the loop!!

Hi Val! The trainers have advised me to eat 6 small meals a day!! Small. So I will have 3 egg whites with turkey for breakfast- than fruit 3 hours later. Lunch can be tuna, salad, soup...whatever than 3 hours later another small snack. Sometimes I have a non fat yogurt or almonds. My favorite is banana with a Tbsp of peanut butter. Then dinner. Ususally grilled fish or chicken. I havnt had red meat in over 3 weeks! ( well no I lie, I made Buffalo burgers last week and I had a small on with out the bun and felt like $#&% after.
No Soda.Try it out and let me know how it goes. Its a lot of prep when you are on the road, but its important to fuel.
BTW....my e-mail is lilfoxx@optonline.net
Thanks for the beautiful card!!

Hi Vaerie,
I love the comment you made about your family, "healthy living is in our future!"

That's another important aspect of living healthy. When you make healthy choices for your life, it teaches your children to do the same, which can radical improve their future. As the old song goes, "Teach your children well".
Good for you!
Your friend,
Doug Schoon
