Monday Exercise Tip #3

Before breakfast, go for a 30-minute brisk walk or light jog. This will increase your metabolism and get your blood circulating for the day. The trick is to get your heart rate up before breakfast – and then eat HEALTHY (steel cut oatmeal with fresh blueberries – or low fat yogurt with low sugar granola and a banana are both good ideas).

It is so great to see you providing monday fitness tips! I work for a public health campaign called "Healthy Monday" and we encourage people to use Monday as the day to start making better health decisions. Here are some great fitness tips!

1. Gain Momentum
One of the best ways to stick to a workout is to start slow and give your body time to build endurance rather than trying to push yourself too far too fast. Start off slowly with easier routines. There will be plenty of time to increase your intensity level once you are in better shape!

2. Avoid Perfectionism
When it comes to a Healthy exercise plan, avoid perfectionism and stick to moderation. If you missed the gym today, take a walk around your neighborhood after dinner. Skipping the gym one, two or more days does not have to mean your regimen is ruined.

3. Use Monday
Monday can be the day you increase your workout intensity each week to help you reach your fitness goal. Monday can help you get back on track especially after a weekend full of temptations. Starting your work out routine on a Monday, the day you start your work routine, may help you better integrate it into your life.

Since I have plantar faciitus from a training walk for breast cancer I did a year ago, I have been struggling with exercise. I am pretty religious about it so it has been frustrating--my friends are threatening to tie me to a wheelchair! I saw a program on an infomercial called Fluidity. Sherri Alegria here at CND uses it so I tried it. It is a great workout if you really listen and do each exercise carefully-and no pain in my foot! Great for beginners too-You only need to do 1/2 hour (that is the dvd) 2-3 times a week . I am already fairly thin but am getting more defined through the back and abs and much more stretched out. It is almost a ballet workout for klutzes!!
