Meet Roxanne

Hi, my name is Roxanne Valinoti. I have always battled my weight ever since I can remember. Growing up in an Italian household, food was always the focus. I was never obese growing up, just “muscular,” and I always played sports. I was active going to the gym and enjoyed mountain biking. I participated in several charity bike-a-thons and even went to camp to be a better rider in my 20s.I have been on the South Beach diet, Weight Watchers, and I do a annual detox for one week. I know how to eat healthy and exercise. I have a home gym! So why do I find myself 50 lbs. overweight and in the worst shape of my life?

I began working in a salon as a nail professional when I was 18 and I quickly got into the bad habits we all have. With a full book, I started eating quickly on the run (or in the break room), drinking coffee all day long to keep me going, and I started smoking. These were, and continue to be, my vices when dealing with a busy lifestyle. Looking back I wish I had the time I thought I didn’t have then.

As my career developed I became an Education Ambassador for CND (Creative Nail Design at the time). That was 10 years ago, and in the past five years my travel schedule has increased substantially. Last year I was on the road a total of 150 days! Training and inspiring other nail professionals takes a lot of energy! Travel makes it difficult to make intelligent choices about food, so you make choices out of convenience, loneliness, and exhaustion. I quit smoking last September after having a basal cell (skin cancer) removed from my upper lip. I’m sorry to admit that I started smoking again, after six months.

So enough about excuses! I am the only one who is responsible for my actions. I have committed to Healthy Tech Talk so we can work together as an industry to feel better. I will not promise to be perfect, but I will make an effort to change habits and share them with you all along the way. I have committed to a 10-week body-shaping program that starts next week. It is a nationwide program.

I looked up a UBC center near me and of course the closest one is in Illinois. When I get home I will check out some other fitness centers in the area.

We should call everyone else that said they were going to join the blog. But wellness is all about a personal journey so maybe we should wait a few more days/weeks? Anyway, I'm really enjoying this - hope you are too. Hey, I went out yesterday and bought a jump rope. Thanks for the inspiration!

HEY FOXY ROXY!!! and everyone else;)

I have been MIA but am definitely in sync. I submitted my info to Hannah - have been eating my veggies instead of (sometimes besides) my carbs, choosing fish over red meat and utilizing organic ingredients to prepare meals. I have lost my first 4 pounds since CA 26 to go... mostly liquid I bet, but hey, I'll take fewer numbers on the scale anyday - liquid or ???.

Today is day 3 of my fitness program. I go everyday at 6 am....today was HARD. Well every day so far has been a challenge, but today we worked legs, and I could not move when I got home!!!! Tomorrow is chest and triceps, and my biceps still hurt from Tuesday. Cant wait till it gets easier!! The program is amazing, working all muscle groups with resistance bands and using a bag for boxing.

Tonight I made the maple crusted chicken and dijon potatoes from Grail Springs book. Not bad.I also made the Garlic soup which was the best!

Mom, I'm so surprised you got on!!! Thanks!

Great job Rox! I've made it my goal to spread the word about Healthy Tech Talk to every nail professional I meet. During dinner at the Sonoma Roadshow I let everyone know so, hopefully we will have some new 'bloggers' join us.

Hi Rox,

THIS IS AMAZING!!! I think I heard a rumbling about these blogs, but had no idea there were so many CND EA's that have inspired ME doing THIS!
It's even MORE inspiring!

Keep the pedal to the medal, I know how hard this is, I have fought the same battle my entire life. Right down to the active in high school, bad habits when I started working in salons, isn't it lame how we can make ourselves suffer and not even know it?

You're doing great, I can't wait to see how you've changed the next time I come "stalk" you.

Lol, I did a google search for you Roxanne, hoping to find some way of contacting you....

I met you at The Event (UK) - I was sitting pretty much right next to your desk lol .... the annoying gal with a 1000 qs!
.....

I wasn't actually expecting to find anything! :)
So first off, I just want to say that although I understand that to be fit and healthy is important, please don't change too much.... when I saw you in Oct, I thought you were tip to toe, inside/out beautiful.

And now the reason for wanting to contact you.... When are you coming back?! I want you to teach me :) you seem to click my brain cogs into place so easily.

Lauri xx
